Galactomannan from palm sugar seeed (Arengga pinnata) has been crosslinked with glutaraldehyde (GIG) through condensation reaction to form galactomannan crosslinked glutaraldehyde (GIG) using acid catalyst.The amount of galactomannan extracted from sugar palm fruit was 4.427%. The FT-IR spectrum of GIG showing an absorption at wavelength of 1150-1085 cm-1 which is corresponded with functional group of C-O-C asymmetric. The absorbance of hydroxyl functional group became smaller in the increasing of glutaraldehyde quantity. Based on the SEM image the morphology of galactomannan surface has been changed from smooth to rough and bumpy. The thickness of the films were 0.20 – 0.82 mm which was increased if the amount of glutaraldehyde raised. The swelling properties of GIG was determined using gravimetric method. It has been found that increasing amount of glutaraldehyde could decrease swelling index. GIG can be used as drug carrier matrix based on the swelling index.
