Hypertensive Retinopathy Identification from Retinal Fundus Image Using Probabilistic Neural Network

Hypertensive retinopathy refers to a disease condition that damages the retinal vascularization in hypertensive patients, so that it lead to the blindness and death. It can affect the retina function because of a swelling in the retinal vascular to be. Usually, this condition is identified manually by ophthalmologist through the fundoscopy examination using ophthalmoscope. Therefore, a method for identifying hypertensive retinopathy automatically based on the retinal fundus images is needed. In this research, we proposed Probabilistic Neural Network (PNN) for identifying hypertensive retinopathy through retinal fundus images. Before the identification process, the image processing and feature extraction used in the proposed method are box counting and invariant moments. Based on the experiment result, the proposed method has been able to identify hypertensive retinopathy with the accuracy reached 100%.
