This thesis explores the topical theme shifts in factual translation of English-Bahasa Indonesia, case study of reconstruction of Sinabang Port Specifications. The main problem is to discuss the dominant theme found in both texts, ST and TT. The objectives of this study are to identify the dominant theme and why such theme is dominant. Next, how shifts in translation affect the quality of translation is also described. This is a qualitative research which is based on a library observation. A descriptive and contrastive analysis is conducted to compare both analyzed texts. The method goes thru 3 main stages starting from data classification, analysis and discussion. The findings suggest that there are some structure shifts happened in the target text due to the problem of different structure between source language and target language. Such change is quite minute since the whole clause’s meaning is kept constant. The findings really support the theories of translation developed by Catford (1965) in the analysis of Systemic Functional Linguistics initiated by Halliday (1964) where thematic change will convey different meaning.
