The Effect of Cr2O3 Addition on the Phase Stability of Tl2-xCrxBa2CaCu2O8-δ Superconductor

The phase stability of High Temperature Superconductor Tl2-xCrxBa2CaCu2O8-δ (x= 0.0, ..., 0.4) via solid state reaction method with BaCO3 as precursor has been observed by addition of Cr2O3. The powders were sintered at 900oC for 24 hours with twice grounding. The powders were then pressed into pellets of 13 mm diameter and 2 mm thickness under a load of 7 metric tons using hydraulic press for 10 minutes. The pellets were sintered at 900oC in a quarz tube in oxygen flow for 4-5 mins followed by furnace cooling. The van der Pauw method with silver paste contact has been employed to study the resistance of materials. The resistance and temperatur dependence were conducted in the range of 300K-30K using Edwards Cryogenics 8200 and CTL-Cryogenics model 22 compressor and X-ray powder diffraction has been employed to identify the Tl- 2212 phase occurence with 2Θ= 0o-60o. The critical temperature was in the range of 92K-96K , indicated that all of our samples were high temperature superconductors.. The volume fraction of Tl-2212 phase wiithout Cr2O3 was 50% and it was increase up to 88,23 % mole when 0.1 %mole and 94.11% when 0.2% mole Cr2O3 has been addeed-in.
