Language shift, sometimes referred to as language transfer or language replacement or assimilation, is the process whereby a speech community of a language shifts to speaking another language. Often, languages perceived to be "higher status" stabilise or spread at the expense of other languages perceived by their own speakers to be lower.This research focus the nominal lexicon and verba lexicon of the Mandailing language concerning culture, Specifically, it attempts to describe the level of comprehension of the native speakers of Mandailing in nominal lexicon and verba lexicon language defense which includes language shift of Mandailing language. Data of nominal lexicon and verba lexicon collected by ways of written documents, nonparticipant observation, and indepth interview guide. Then, the data is reduced and classified based on its ecosystem and kind. The test is conducted upon informants resident around Mandailing,the depreciation on nomina lexicon and verba lexicon in traditional Mandailing caused due to internal factors, namely because of the children at the present time is no longer using the Mandailing Traditional culture. and external factors that also influenced by technological development today is more interesting then the Traditional are replaced by games that use the technology. The test result of Mandailings Tradiisonal games had nominalexicon and verba lexicon that be extinct.
