The title of this study is "Death Ceremony Chinese Communities in the District Berastagi Karo". The authors would like to assess the death ceremonies in the Chinese community in the District Berastagi, Karo from beginning to end, how the rituals of death and meaning of any stage in the ceremony. The author uses the theory of structuralism and functionalism in the study of death rituals in the Chinese community in Berastagi, while the method used is descriptive method with qualitative approach. From the results of this study the authors could find death ceremonies in the Chinese community in the District Berastagi, Karo. Death rituals in the Chinese community in the District Berastagi is a traditional ritual that took place with the intent to show a big respect for the parents who have died. Implementation of the death ceremonies, there are several stages namely; ceremony before entering the crate, in this phase will be prepared of all matters relating to such funerals, wash (cleanse) the body, to clothe the body, preparing the altar (the altar of prayer), fixtures or attributes of death and determine the day put the corpse into the coffin, closing casket, burial or cremation. Entry box and the closing ceremony the coffin, the corpse at this stage will be put in the coffin after the arrival day and time has been specified in advance, if all processes have been completed in this phase is executed then the casket will be closed. After the closing ceremony the coffin, in this stage remains will be buried or cremated. Ceremonies after the burial, the funeral ceremonies at this stage has been completed. Subsequently performed in this phase is the period of mourning for the deceased family. Long period of mourning may last for 7 days, 49 days, 1 year and 3 years. The duration of the mourning period is dependent on the far or close kinship with the deceased.
