Diarrhea remains a public health problem in developing countries such as Indonesia, because the morbidity and mortality are still high. The results of Indonesia Health Basic Research Association in 2007 says that diarrhea ranks first of the ten major diseases causes of death in children under five with Proportional Mortality rate 25.2%. The aim of this study is to determine factors related with diarrhea in under five age children in the work area Matiti Public Health Center Doloksanggul Humbang Hasundutan in 2012. This research was an observational analytic study using cross sectional design. The population was all under five age children in the work area and Matiti Public Health Center and taken purposively sampled all of under five age children who lived in the Bonanionan village amounting to 113. Data obtained from interviews using questionnaires, observation, and measurement. Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analysis. The results of this research got incidence rate of diarrhea in under five age children in the working area of Matiti Public Health Center Doloksanggul Humbang Hasundutan in 2012 was 34.5%. The results of bivariate analysis show a huge relation among nutritional status (p = 0.003; RP = 2.138), mother job (p = 0.019; RP = 0.543), clean water supply (p = 0.016; RP = 1.849), and availability of latrines (p = 0.016; RP = 1.877) with diarrheae in under five age children. There is no relation among age (p = 0,440; RP = 1,225), sex (p = 0,424; RP = 1,230), exlusive breast milk (p = 0,388; RP = 1,443), measles immunization status (p = 0,100; RP = 1,686), mother educational (p = 0,084; RP = 0,518), environment sanitation (p = 0,364; RP = 1,270), and personal hygiene (p = 0,960; RP = 1,017)with diarrhea in under five age children. It is suggested that the Matiti Public Health Center Doloksanggul Humbang Hasundutan to improve education and prevention about diarrhea such as improved nutritional status, giving measles immunizations and exclusive breastfeeding.
