Profil Tingkat Pengetahuan Mahasiswa FK USU Stambuk 2008 Tentang Diabetes Gestational

Abstract

Introduction. It is estimated there are 135,000 pregnant women whom are diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), which is roughly around 3 – 5% per year. The knowledge on GDM determines whether the students have awareness over these issu like risk factors, complication and antenatal care. Methods. The research was aimed to determine the knowledge about GDM among the students of Medical Faculty in the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). Data were collected using a self administered questionnaire. The study was undertaken between February 2011 and November 2011. This is a descriptive research method. Tthe sample withdrawal is done by using a stratified random sampling technique Results. A total of 204 students participated in the study. The results show that the majority of the respondent’s knowledge towards GDM is below average which is 43,6%. The average category is 40,7% and the excellent category is 15,7%. Conclusion. From the results mentioned above, we can conclude that the students have an below average knowledge. By doing this research, hopefully this will be an input to the USU Medical Faculty so that in the future, there will be a topic on gestational diabetes mellitus in more depth and for longer duration classes.

Latar Belakang. Kira-kira 135,000 wanita hamil akan mengalami diabetes mellitus gestasional (GDM) setiap tahun yaitu kira-kira 3-5%. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui tingkat pengetahuan para mahasiswa tentang GDM dari segi faktor risiko, komplikasi dan antenatal care. Metode dan Penelitian. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode deskriptif, pendekatan yang digunakan pada desain penelitian ini adalah Cross Sectional Study dan pengambilan sampel dengan menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Hasil. Terdapat 204 orang mahasiswa sebagai responden. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pengetahuan responden tentang GDM mayoritas berada dalam kategori kurang baik yaitu sebesar 43,6%. Kategori cukup baik sebesar 40,7% dimana kategori baik sebesar 15,7%. Kesimpulan. Dari hasil penelitian ini didapati bahwa pengetahuan mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran USU banyak berada pada kategori kurang baik. Dengan penelitian ini diharapkan Fakultas Kedokteran USU akan mengadakan pelajaran tentang diabetes mellitus gestasional dengan lebih mendalam lagi.
