| Abstract: | Ruku-ruku leave (Ocimum sanctum L.) is part of plant with various use such as for the stomachage, antihistamine, injury wash, and toothache. In the last time, the people use the ruku-ruku leave for treatment of toothache. Therefore it is important to study the useful of the ruku-ruku leave.
This research conduct a test of antibacterial activity on ethanol extract of ruku-ruku leave and the formulation of mouthwash that contain ethanol extract from ruku-ruku leave to the bacteria of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sp. (isolated bacteria from specimen) in vitro using agar diffusion method by metal cylinder disk. The sample of ruku-ruku leave took purposively at Jalan Selamat No. 80, Subdistrict of Medan Amplas, Medan.
Antibacterial activity provide of ethanol extract of ruku-ruku leave indicates that the minimum blocked concentration to the Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sp. bacteria (isolated bacteria from specimen) is 40 mg/ml. The ethanol extract of ruku-ruku leave has an effective blocked to the concentration of 90 mm/ml to the bacteria of staphylococcus aureus in 14 mm in diameter on the concentration 80 mg/ml to the bacteria Streptococcus mutans on 14.3 mm in diameter on concentration 90 mg/ml to the bacteria Streptococcus sp. (isolated bacteria from specimen) with diameter 14.7 mm. The testing on ethanol extract ruku-ruku leave of mouthwash on F1, FII, and FIII provide the block zone diameter that satisfy the three of bacteria with the diameter more than 14 mm to the bacteria Strepotococcus mutans, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus sp. (Isolated bacteria from specimen). |
| Abstract (other language): | Daun tumbuhan ruku-ruku (Ocimum sanctum L.) merupakan salah satu bagian tanaman yang perlu dikembangkan manfaatnya, misalnya untuk mengobati sakit perut, batuk, pencuci luka dan sakit gigi.
