    Abstract
    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi karakter fenotip, genotip dan heritabilitas keturunan pertama dari hasil selfing beberapa varietas jagung. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Lahan Penelitian Fakultas Pertanian USU, Medan dengan Ketinggian tempat ± 25 m dpl, mulai dari bulan Januari 2009 sampai Mei 2009. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok dengan satu Faktor (F1 (selfing), Lagaligo F1 (selfing), Wisanggeni F1 (selfing), Lamuru F1 (selfing), Arjuna F1 (selfing) dan Srikandi Kuning-1 F1 (selfing). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan jagung F1 (selfing) berbeda nyata terhadap karakter umur keluar bunga betina, laju pengisian biji, jumlah biji pertongkol, bobot biji pertongkol dan produksi pipilan kering. Parameter yang diamati menunjukkan heritabilitas rendah sampai tinggi. Nilai heritabilitas tinggi terdapat pada karakter laju pengisian biji. Srikandi Kuning-1 F1 (selfing) memiliki nilai rataan produksi yang tertinggi dibanding jagung F1 (selfing) lainnya. Pada Srikandi Kuning-1 F1 (selfing) ini lebih memungkinkan dilakukan silang dalam.
     
    The objective of the research was to evaluate the phenotypic and genotypic characters and the heritability of the F1 self-crossed from several maize varieties. The research was conducted on the field experimental of the Faculty of Agriculture, North Sumatera University, Medan with 25 m altitude, from January 2009 to April 2009. The Randomized Blok design was used with one factor (Bayu F1 (selfing), Lagaligo F1 (selfing), Wisanggeni F1 (selfing), Lamuru F1 (selfing), Arjuna F1 (selfing), dan Srikandi Kuning-1 F1 (selfing). The results showed that the F1 (selfing) maize significantly affected the time of female flowering, the rate of seed filling, the number of seeds per ear, the weight of seeds per ear, the dry seed yielded. The highest heritability was found in the rate of seed filling. The Srikandi Kuning-1 F1 (selfing) showed the highest rate of yielding among the F1 (selfing) varieties. The Srikandi Kuning-1 F1 (selfing) was valuable for selfing to produce the pure line maize.
