| Abstract: | Spatholobus ferrugineus (Zoll & Moritzi) Benth is one of plants which used by Dayak’s Society in East Kalimantan to cure some diseases, such as colic, fever and irregular menstruation. In this research, secondary metabolic compounds from stems of Spatholobus ferrugineus (Zoll & Moritzi) Benth were extracted with methanol. Methanol extracts examined by phytochemical screening and screening for antioxidant with Thin Layer Cromathography (TLC) method also antioxidant activity assay. Screening for
antioxidant and antioxidant activity assay were determined according to the 2,2-Diphenyl-1-Picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay. In antioxidant activity assay, the mixture of extract and DPPH were
incubated at 37°C, then the absorbance was measured at λ= 517 nm use spectrophotometer. The absorbance of sampel, blanko and negative control were converted into the Percentage Antioxidant Activity (AA%).
Phytochemical screening showed that stems of Spatholobus ferrugineus (Zoll & Moritzi) Benth contain compounds of alkaloid, flavonoid, polyphenol and terpenoid/steroid, while major capacity of DPPH radical scavenging were in alkaloid compounds (Rf = 0,80 dan 0,87) and flavonoid compounds (Rf = 0,13; 0,72 dan 0,78). Based on result of the DPPH radical scavenging capacity assay spectrophotometrycally showed that AA% from stems of Spatholobus ferrugineus (Zoll & Moritzi) Benth were 7,014% (1 ppm); 12,228% (2 ppm); 20,360% (4 ppm); 39,913% (8 ppm) dan 77,095% (16 ppm). |
