Kebiasaan Merokok Hubungannya Dengan Sarana Sanitasi Rumah Di Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai Propinsi Sumatera Utara Tahun 2006

Direct impact of smoking habit to health problem has been known widely. In order to know the direct impact to health, district health survey data (Surkesda) of district Serdang Bedagai 2006 was analyzed further most. The survey was Cross Sectional Study with two stage clusters sampling strategy. Sample size determination by estimating a population proportion with specified absolute precision, a sample of 2500 households would be needed. Data analyzed by descriptive epidemiology and Chi–Square test. The result shows that prevalence rate of smoking habit among house hold head was 72.92% and among population > 10 years old age was 28.65%; more than half of them (71.05%) started smoking at the age of 15-19 years old; 57.74% daily average of cigarettes smoked was 11- 20. Environmental sanitation facilities among smoker significantly less than among non smoker; Own drinking water facility (57.7% vs. 66.6% χ2=18.834; p=0.005); Own bathroom facility (73.2% vs. 77.9%; χ2 = 8.259; p=0.04); Own toilet facility (70.1% vs. 76.9%; χ2 =19.971; p=0.001). Based on the result, it is suggested to give more attention to prevent smoking and stop smoking program.
