Prevalensi dan Pola Penyakit Infeksi Saluran Pernafasan Akut Di Tiga Kelurahan Kecamatan Medan Baru, Kota Medan, 2005

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is considered as one of major health problem in both Developing and Under developing Coutry. It is number one out of ten leading causes of morbidity ini Padang Bulan Healt Center, Medan Baru Subregency Medan City. A cluster survey within Cross Sectional Study was conducted to estimate the prevalence and to learn the pattern of ARI in a population at Padang Bulan Health Center working area. There are three villages around tihs Health Center namely; Merdeka, Padang Bulan and Darat. A sample size of 210 household would be needed, drawn from those three villages proportionally. The data were collected by face to face interviwed using questionnaire. The descriptive epidemiology were use for data analyzes. The study showed that total number of people was 852, male and female proportion was 51% and 49% respectively. One month period prevalence rate of ARI was 50.1%; the highest was at Padang Bulan village, it was 52.4%. The pattern of ARI was as follow, the highest group of specific morbidity rate were as follow; group ≤ 5 years old 70.4%; male 52.9%, grandma/grandpa 91.7%. Chinese 60% and Hinduism 56.3%. In order to improve controlling and prevention measures of ARI, it is suggested that population target should be children under 5 years old.
