Public transportation is an important medium of mobility to support people's daily activities in the city. The general conditions of public transportation in the city are reflected by the city itself. The choice of mode of transport lies on the benefits they received from the mode of transportation. This paper attempts to
outline the people's perception towards the public transportation services in Medan. The research was conducted in Medan with the daily commuter of public transport as the main respondents. In this case mini bus is the most widely used vehicles in the city. The study applies variables such as reliability, comfort, safety, speed and fare as an indicator of assessment. The data from the field survey are analyzed and complemented with descriptive analysis by
using frequencies, graphics and chi-square analysis. According to the analysis, the respondent changed the mode of transport once they get to their destination. Generally, the travellers are satisfied with the services rendered especially where frequent stop can be requested from the driver even not at the proper bus stop. Although they feel
comfortable by using public transportation, however the feeling of insecurity exists according to the respondents.
Other factors contribute to insecurity are pick pockets and traffic accidents. The chi-square analysis shows that the respondents' answer distribution is not homogeneous, or the users of the public transportation in Medan appear to have different perception against the public transportation service as a parameter of variables.
