Outdoor advertisement is an element that has taken an important role in supporting the arrangement of urban landscape. One of its roles is to elongate messages to the community, as a facility that oriented in the high density message environment, run as social landmark and represent as cultural expression. Liberated form the exploration of urban designer that put the role as signs capitalism in every planning action but in the other hand the outdoor advertisement can influence the perform of ‘sense of place’ in urban space. Through literature review and case studies, this thesis will explore some of quantitative methods to learn the affect that can caused by outdoor advertisement as formed factor of ‘sense of place’ in urban space. Case studies which become the object of the research consist of three areas, they are Jl. Zainul Arifin, Jl. Ahmad Yani, and Jl. Putri Hijau, Medan street corridor, that contain various of outdoor advertisement to study through comparison, and contrast in 4 observation scope: generally (site), each element (linear), per side of element (volumetric) and based on a certain interval (sequential). The progress of this study is utilizing the study of statistic, picture, and photograph to analyze the data by mixture discussion of the character of outdoor advertisement in general with custom methods done by urban planner when analyzed an urban space. By the comparison of the all observation areas appearances that show the diversity on outdoor advertisement distribution related to urban space character, thus it can be studied holistically how the outdoor advertisement affected as a ‘sense of place’ establishment of urban space. Based on literature overview, the comprehension of the main study about outdoor advertisement in generally concern about the relation with its representative as the urban physical elements, as cultural expression and its related to meaning and also urban space quality that compass these. In order to gain the comprehensive understanding, therefore it may provide good contribution to all planning and urban manager in the relation to perform the identities of urban space.
