Lactic acidosis is a broad-anion gap metabolic acidosis, it is characterized by pH 5 mmol/L. Lactic acidosis is divided into 2 categories: Type A occurs in association with clinical evidence of poor tissue perfusion or oxygenation. Type B occurs when clinical evidence of poor tissue perfusion or oxygenation is absent. The clinical signs usually indicate tissue hypoperfusion and hypoxia. Diagnosis is established based on anamnesis, clinical signs & symptoms, and laboratory findings. The therapy is directed towards correcting the underlying cause and optimizing tissue oxygen deliveryen_US
