Pemisahan Sinamil Alkohol Dari Kemenyan Sumatera (Styrax benzoin) Dengan Metode Campuran Dua Pelarut (N?Heksana : Isopropil Alkohol) Pada Tempratur ± 60’C
Abstract
Styrax Benzoin has been commodity in North Tapanuli – North Sumatera. The Composition of the Styrax Benzoin is free cinnamic acid (10%), benzoic acid and conniferyl cinnamic (2 – 3%), conniferyl benzoic and cinnamil cinnamic (70 – 80%). Cinnamil alcohol has been used as raw material for making cinnamil acetic that used as base note and fixative in perfumery industry. The separation cinnamil alcohol using single solvent like kloroform has been reported. According to this, we want to separate cinnamil alcohol from styrax benzoin. First, saponification styrax benzoin with KOH to form unsaponificable cinnamil alcohol, then extracted using n-hexane / isopropyl alcohol in several composition at 60 ± 3 0C. The cinnamil alcohol resulted from this procedure cannot measuring because there is another salt compound in that cinnamil alcohol.
