Faktor Dominan Anak Menjadi Anak Jalanan Di Kota Medan

Street children are the phenomena which are arise in urban region associated with various problems of development faced by Indonesia. Medan, as one of the biggest city in Indonesia has a serious problem about street children. Todays, the total number of street children in Medan according to the statistical data in 2003 reached 2.526 kids or 50,20% of the total street children who are wide spread in the entire North Sumatra. Considering the increasing number of street children in Medan and even various factors as the back ground why they can be one of the street children. This study intends to find out the dominant factors of the children to become street children in Medan. The methodological type that was used in this current study included an explanatory method using an quantitative analysis. All the street children in Medan were treated a population and the samples were by accidentally involving 250 street kids. This study choose five locations, thai is Terminal Terpadu Amplas, Terminal Pinang Baris, Simpang Majestik, Simpang Sikambing, dan Simpang Ramayana-Katamso. The result of the research showed that the poverty of the family, social life disorganizes family is the significant factors why they become street children. The variable, that has been measured, reflects that the poverty is the dominant factor in escalating the number of street children in Medan.
