Uji Potensi Bacillus Sp. Dan Escherichia Coli Dalam Mendegradasi Alkil Berzen Sulfonat Sebagai Bahan Aktif Detergen

The study was designed to reveal the ability and the growth of Bacillus sp. and Escherichia coli in degrading alkyl benzene sulphonate an active substance of detergent. The bacteria were isolated from water contaminated by detergent in environment. Both pure and mixed inoculum of the bacteria were examined. Parameters were measured every 5 day for 20 days by culturing the bacteria in nutrient broth and alkyl benzene sulphonate 100 ppm medium in distilled water at 37oC. Results indicate that reduction of the compound was occurred after 5, 10 and 20 days respectively. E. coli as pure culture and mixed with Bacillus sp. have potential in degrading alkyl benzene sulphonate. After 20 days incubation the compound was degraded 72.09 % (27.91 ppm) by mixed culture. The number of colonies both E. coli and Bacillus sp. on nutrient broth medium is higher than that of alkyl benzene sulphonate 100 ppm. Eventhough, pure culture in the later medium the colonies of E. coli and mixed with Bacillus sp. are higher and significantly different than pure culture Bacillus sp.
