Determinan Kejadian Stroke Pada Penderita Rawat Inap Rsup Haji Adam Malik Medan

Stroke is one of the mayor causes of morbidity and death. The aim of this study to identify risk factors related to the occurrence of stroke among patient treated in Adam Malik hospital. This study was case control study. Cases were all newly patients treated in neurology ward, conscious and participation in study. Control were all newly elective surgery inpatients treated in surgery ward and all newly non stroke inpatients treated in neurology. Sample size was 110 (55 cases and 55 controls). Data was analyzed using logistic regression. Result: one hundreds ten subjects, 21,8 % are 68-73 years old, 56,4% are male, 58,2% are Tapanuli, 19,1% overweight, 18,2% have family history, 43,6% smoking, 9,0% alcohol consumption, 7,3% fat intake > 30,0% of total calorie, 53,6% hypertension, 5,45% diabetes mellitus. After analyzed using logistic regression, risk factors of stroke occurrence were age (p =0,043, OR: 9,451), smoking (p= 0,038, OR: 11,381) and hypertension (p = 0,000, OR: 96,155). Conclusion: age, smoking and hypertension are strong risk factors of stroke occurrence. It suggested that promotion about health life style must be done so that people can applied in daily and monitoring blood pressure by regular check up.
