Diatesis Bahasa Batak Toba: Suatu Pendekatan Tipologi

This article discusses the diathesis of Toba Batak language using a typological approach. The purpose of linguistic typology is, to categorize the language based on the nature of language behavior.Based on the theoretical framework of liguistic typology, the languages can be categorized into accusative, ergative, active languages, etc. In relation to diathesis, the accusative language has the active and pasive diathesis (base construction diathesis and generative construction diathesis) and ergative language recognizes the existence of ergative diathesis (base construction diathesis) and antipassive diathesis (generative construction diathesis) and medial diathesis, are between both active and passive. This study, concludes that Toba Batak Language belongs to accusative nomonative typology (categorized as accusative language) that has active diathesis which is marked by prefix maN?(?hon, ?i), masi? (?hon, ?i), pa? (?hon) and passive diathesis which is marked by prefixes di?, tar?, and prefix ‘zero’ whereas prefixes mar? or prefix ‘zero’ could also mark medial diathesis in Toba Batak language.
